Hello, everybody.
I was in a little bit of a slump a while back, and luckily it seems I’ve escaped it. I’ve felt very artistically motivated, and have been channeling that into a couple of things.
The Return
When I was eighteen, I started a musical project called “Gay Dog Fire Starter,” because the name made me laugh and I wanted to use it. But it’s grown to be quite a big thing in my life, and it was the precursor to my more-serious music project Toxitown.
It consists of me, of course, as well as my artistic companion and all around good-time gal (I might be using that term wrong), the Queen of the Universe. It’s incredible that we even met considering she’s an alien from outer space.
Anyway, I haven’t released anything under the Gay Dog Fire Starter moniker for almost two years. So I did a cover of the classic “Tight Pants / Body Rolls” by Leslie Hall. If you somehow haven’t heard it, I encourage you to check out the music video - it’s life changing.
I came up with the idea recently to do an extended-play of songs relating to Halloween. It’s not much of a challenge, since our songs kind of happen to be Halloween-themed anyway (Don’t Mess with Skeletons and GHOSTDANCE come to mind). I’ve been trying to focus on shorter and more upbeat production times with my music, because my last (Toxitown) album, Endowment House, took around a year and a half to make. I really like that record, and I’m proud of how it came out, but I don’t think it needed that much time. And most of my favorite songs only take a few days to a week to make, anyway.
The single will be out on the first of October, and I’ll post about it on Facebook.
NaNoWriMo, Books
Weirdly enough, I’ve been spending a lot of time writing lately. It’s the easiest thing to keep up with consistently right now.
I’ve been working on a couple of things: a short-story collection called Dustin’s Twelve Cousins; a pseudo-neo-pagan weirdo thing called I Have Been Banished To Hell that I’ll probably never finish, and most prominently, a novel about a silly boy named Butch.
It’s almost National Novel Writing Month, and I plan on participating again, although I don’t know if I’ll win this year. But either way, it’ll be a good contribution. I feel really good about this story, and a lot less embarrassed by it than last year’s book.
That’s all for now, thank you all for reading. If you are subscribed to this newsletter, that’s really cool and I think it’s nice. If you aren’t, but would like to, you can put your email in below. I don’t write crazy often, so I won’t clog your inbox or anything. Bye-bye!
